Phu Quoc Sunset Yacht: BBQ on the water and evening fireworks

A Phu Quoc sunset yacht cruise is one of those things that’s genuinely better than it sounds on paper. You’re on the water when the light is at its best, there’s fresh seafood grilling on the deck, and the evening ends with fireworks visible from the sea. This is the most premium option in Luna’s tour lineup — a proper cruising yacht, not a crowded speedboat, with a smaller group and a relaxed pace.

The yacht departs from the Dương Đông area in the afternoon and sails toward Hòn Dăm island, stopping for water activities before anchoring for the BBQ as the sun sets. The return route passes near Cầu Hôn for the nightly fireworks — one of the better ways to see them.

Itinerary

14:00 — Pickup from your hotel in the Dương Đông area.

14:30 — Board the yacht at the pier. The crew will brief you on the day’s plan and the equipment available.

~15:00 — Sail toward Hòn Dăm island. The water here is calm and clear in good conditions. Activities are available throughout this section: snorkelling in the shallows around the island, SUP (stand-up paddleboard) for those who want to work for it, and floatation rings for anyone who just wants to float.

~17:00 — The yacht anchors and the BBQ begins. The crew grills fresh seafood on board — squid, shrimp, fish and whatever else came in that day’s catch. Soft drinks, beer, water and tropical fruit are laid out on deck. This is the centrepiece of the trip: eating well, on the water, watching the sun drop toward the sea.

Sunset — The boat is positioned facing west so you get the full arc of the Phú Quốc sunset from the deck. The light on the water from a boat is a different thing entirely from watching it from the beach.

~20:00 — The yacht drifts toward the Cầu Hôn / Hòn Thơm area as evening falls. The nightly fireworks happen on a schedule here, visible from the deck.

20:30 — Return to the pier. Transfer back to your hotel.

Good to know

Group size: This is a smaller group experience than the big public tour boats. The yacht takes a limited number of guests, which affects both the comfort on board and the service quality.

Seasickness: The sailing sections are generally calm, but if you’re prone to motion sickness on boats, take medication beforehand. The route stays in relatively sheltered waters.

Snorkelling: The snorkelling near Hòn Dăm is light reef snorkelling. Visibility varies by season — best in dry season (November–April) when the water is clearest. The crew will guide you to the best spots on the day.

SUP: No experience needed. The crew will help with balance and technique. The sea conditions are generally calm enough for beginners.

Pickup from Bãi Trường: Standard pickup is from the Dương Đông area. If you’re staying elsewhere, contact us and we’ll do our best to arrange something.

Weather: The tour runs in most conditions but may be adjusted in rough weather. Luna will contact you in advance if there’s any concern.

This is an evening-focused trip. If you want a full day of island-hopping with snorkelling and beaches, the 4-island tour or 6-point south island tour are better fits. This one is about the sunset, the food and the atmosphere.
