This is not a tourist excursion with a guaranteed catch. It is a full day at sea alongside experienced local fishermen, on the same grounds where they work. The trip covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner on board, with sunrise and sunset both spent on the water. Itinerary

05:00 — Meet at the pier at Bai Truong. The boat departs before sunrise while the sky is still dark. Being on time matters; the crew work to the tide and weather.

05:00–07:00 — Transit offshore. The fishing grounds sit roughly 20–40 km out, depending on the season. During the crossing, the crew prepare the lines and tackle.

07:00 — Fishing begins around sunrise. Lines go in as the light comes up. Breakfast is served on board — simple Vietnamese food cooked by the crew: rice, soup, whatever was fresh at the market.

07:00–12:00 — Morning fishing session. This is the main window. The crew read the water — current, colour, depth — and move if needed. Target species include tuna, barracuda, Spanish mackerel (kingfish), and grouper, depending on the season.

12:00–13:00 — Lunch on board. If there has been a good catch, grilled fish from the haul often makes it onto the table.

13:00–17:30 — Afternoon session continues. The pace slows a little mid-afternoon. Some days are productive; others are slower. The crew adjust technique and location.

17:30–18:00 — Sunset at sea. The return journey is timed so you see the sun go down over the water, with the island in the distance.

18:00–23:00 — Return transit. The boat arrives back at the pier around 23:00.

Good to know

Seasickness: Open-water conditions can be rough, particularly from June to September during the southwest monsoon. If you are prone to motion sickness, take medication before departure — not once you are already out there.

What to bring: Sun protection (hat, reef-safe sunscreen, long sleeves), a light jacket for the early morning crossing, comfortable non-slip footwear, a small dry bag for your phone and valuables, and any personal snacks or drinks beyond water.

Fitness and health: This is a long day on moving water with no option to step off early. Not recommended for those with significant back problems or severe motion sickness history.

Children: Older children who are comfortable on boats are fine; very young children or those who tire quickly on long trips are better suited to a shorter tour such as our reef fishing and snorkelling combo or an evening night squid fishing trip.

The catch: There is no guarantee. Some days the lines stay busy; others are quieter. The fishermen are professionals, but the sea decides. That is honest fishing.
