Hòn Thơm Cable Car Phu Quoc: water park, buffet and what to expect

The Hòn Thơm cable car Phu Quoc is one of the longest sea-crossing cable cars in the world, stretching roughly 8 km over the South Island archipelago. This full-day tour combines the cable car crossing with Aquatopia water park, the Exotica amusement park, and a 70-dish seafood buffet at Mango restaurant — all on Hòn Thơm island. Unlike the island-hopping speedboat tours, this one is built around the cable car experience itself and the facilities on the island. It suits families, groups, and anyone who wants a full activity day without getting on a boat.

Itinerary

08:00 — Pickup from Luna Oriental. The drive south to An Thới cable car station takes approximately 30 minutes.

09:00 – 09:20 — Board the cable car. The gondolas are enclosed and air-conditioned, with glass floors on some cabins for views directly down to the water. On clear days the southern archipelago stretches out below — the smaller islands, fishing boats, and occasional coral patches are visible. The crossing takes about 20 minutes.

09:30 — Arrive on Hòn Thơm island. First stop is Cầu Hôn (Kiss Bridge), a photogenic arched bridge about five minutes’ walk from the cable car terminal. It is the most-photographed spot on the island — worth stopping for, though expect other groups to be doing the same.

10:00 onwards — Choose between Aquatopia and Exotica, or split time between both. Aquatopia is a covered water park with slides of varying intensity, a wave pool, and a lazy river — change into swimwear before getting in. Exotica is the drier option, with go-karts, rides, and games more similar to a traditional amusement park.

12:30Mango restaurant buffet. The spread runs to around 70 dishes with a strong emphasis on seafood — grilled, steamed, and stir-fried — alongside Vietnamese dishes and a small international section. The restaurant is large and air-conditioned.

13:30 onwards — Continue with whichever park you haven’t fully explored. Aquatopia and Exotica both have enough to fill the afternoon for most groups.

16:00 — Begin heading back toward the cable car terminal for the return crossing.

17:00 — Arrive at An Thới station, transfer back to Luna Oriental.

Good to know

If you plan to go into Aquatopia early, wear your swimwear under your clothes from the cable car. Changing facilities are available at the park, but going in ready saves time.

Sunscreen is essential — the island has limited shade outside the water park and restaurant. Pack it in your day bag rather than relying on buying it on the island.

Some Aquatopia slides have a minimum height restriction of 1 metre. If you’re bringing children under that height, they can still access the wave pool and gentler sections, but a few slides won’t be available. Confirm this at booking so there are no surprises.

The cable car can be temporarily suspended in strong winds. This is rare but worth knowing — on the occasional day this happens, the operator usually offers a speedboat transfer as an alternative.

Bring a waterproof bag or dry bag for your phone and valuables if you’re heading into Aquatopia.

How to book

Luna Oriental coordinates the booking and arranges pickup directly from the hotel. The price is 1,270,000 ₫ per person (reduced from 1,400,000 ₫).

Reserve through our experiences page or via the booking form. One day’s notice is sufficient for most dates — two to three days ahead during peak season (December to April). For questions before booking, reach us on the contact page.

If you are weighing up options, the south island 6-stop tour covers a different side of Phú Quốc — cultural rather than activity-focused — and pairs well with this one on separate days.
